Azzam Alhussain

Edge AI researcher

Biography

I am an Electrical Engineering Assistant Professor at Jubail Industrial College. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida, where I conducted research under the supervision of professor Mingjie Lin in the Autonomous Computing lab. My research focused on hardware acceleration techniques to enhance the performance and throughput of optimized Deep Neural Networks on edge devices. This included exploring compression DNN approaches and reconfigurable computing for implementing Computer Vision algorithms on AMD SoC-FPGAs and NVIDIA Jetsons, with minimal accuracy loss. I also developed a strong interest in advancing Quantization and Knowledge Distillation compression methods for efficient real-time inference of AI Medical Imaging and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) models by leveraging Edge AI and Embedded ML computing platforms for various Applied Intelligence Applications in supervision tasks.
